Google AdSense Terms of Service

One of the most important things you should do after joining the Google AdSense program is to read the Terms of Service. You don't want to spend hours on end building a website, optimizing the ads, and then receive an e-mail from Google saying that you've been banned from the Google AdSense program.

The best thing for you to do is visit this page and thoroughly read over them.

However in case you have done so already and want to quickly refresh yourself of the rules stated within the ToS, here's a concise list of the rules. Please bear in mind that some may indeed be missing and that these could be out of date by the time you read them. As I said before the best option would be to visit their site and read over the latest version of the ToS yourself.

  • Google accounts aren't transferable, assignable or resalable.
  • Only 1 account per entity, i.e. you as an individual may only have one AdSense account. A business may have it's own account as it counts as an entity within itself.
  • A maximum of 3 ad units, 1 link unit, 2 search boxes, and a single referral button per product can be placed upon a page at one time.
  • You can't place Google AdSense ads on non-content based pages, i.e. error pages, gateway pages etc...
  • AdSense ads may not be placed on any gambling related, adult, or any domain parking websites, pop-ups, pop-unders, or in any email.
  • Portions of the ads must not be covered or hidden from view. In addition to this the ad colors must be chosen so that all the ad elements are visible.
  • Click on the ads must not result in a new browser window being opened.
  • You may not modify the code that Google provide you.
  • Google AdSense ads must not be shown on websites/webpages that run other competitive ad services, such as YPN.
  • Google ads may not be shown on pages with MP3, Video, News groups, and image results.
  • You may not provide any incentives for the visitors to click on your ads or attract undue attention to the ads, for example flashing arrows pointing at them.
  • You can only label the ads as "sponsored links" or "advertisements".
  • Your website must not contain any unacceptable content (racism ,illegal downloads, etc...)
  • Don't use section targeting to show higher paying ads that aren't related to your site content.
  • Don't click on the ads yourself, or get your friends/relatives to click on them for you.
  • Don't disclose your AdSense statistics public. You are allowed to earnings and impressions but other stats such as your CTR, number of clicks, eCPM etc...
