Now days domain names has become very cheap and therefore it has become
very easy to get carried away and buy more domain names than you can handle.
This has become especially true after the widespread of online payment systems
such as PayPal and MoneyBookers.
I know exactly how it feels when you are working on one site and suddenly
you get an inspiration, after which you go off on the hunt to find the perfect
domain. Since registering domain names typically costs less than $10, and takes
less than 5 minutes to complete the registration process, you buy the domain
name and store it for "later use".
Yes, it's true domain names are cheap. And yes, it's true that if you don't
buy it now someone else may snatched up the name by the following morning.
However you are not benefiting by buying domain names on a pulse like this.
Let me justify this with the following points:
- Even if it only costs $8 per domain it all adds up in the long run. Especially
because you have to renew the domain names each year.
- The sites you make will never be popular as you either end up with many
undeveloped / partially developed domains, or don't have enough time to market
the sites properly.
Instead of going on domain registration sprees, you should try and keep a
note of the idea and possible domain names for that site and then work on these
ideas once you have established your present sites. Try and only register domains
for ideas you are totally sure will work.
